Buddhism isn't only practiced in private. The Soka Gakkai has always expressed its philosophy through culture, community, and action in the world. From taiko drumming to interfaith peace forums, SGI activities reflect the belief that a Buddhist life is an engaged life, one that contributes to the happiness of others.

In Las Vegas and around the world, SGI members gather in divisions: youth, women's, men's, and seniors, each with its own spirit, leadership, and activities. And at the foundation of it all: the district, where members meet each other face to face and practice together.

🎭

Culture & Arts

SGI has a long tradition of using the arts as a vehicle for peace. Locally, members participate in choral groups, taiko drumming, dance, and creative expression events that reflect the diversity and vitality of the Las Vegas community.

Youth Division

The youth division is the engine of SGI's future. Young members gather for study, activities, and dialogue, developing leadership skills and a deep sense of mission. Las Vegas youth participate in regional and national events including the 50K Lions of Justice Festival.

🌸

Women's Division

The women's division has historically been the heart of SGI. Members gather for study, support, and activities centered on developing the 'mother of kosen-rufu' spirit: courageous, compassionate, and unwavering.

🏔️

Men's Division

Men's division members gather for study and activities focused on developing strong character, responsibility, and commitment to both family and community. The lion king spirit, protecting and advancing, is the hallmark of men's division practice.

📖

Study & Dialogue

Regular study meetings deepen understanding of Nichiren Buddhist philosophy, Ikeda Sensei's guidance, and the Gosho (Nichiren's writings). Monthly Soka 2030 study meetings connect local practice to SGI's long-term vision for peace.

🤝

Community Service

SGI members are active in their local communities: volunteering, engaging in interfaith dialogue, and contributing to causes aligned with the SGI's focus on peace, education, and environmental sustainability.

☮️

Peace & Human Rights

Inspired by Ikeda Sensei's annual peace proposals to the United Nations, SGI Las Vegas members engage in local peace-building: from interfaith events to discussions on nuclear disarmament, human rights, and sustainable development.

🏠

District Life

At the heart of SGI activity is the district: small groups of members who live nearby and gather regularly in homes and community spaces. Districts are where real relationships form, where members support one another through life's challenges, and where the practice comes alive.
